Putting my time where my mouth is

Regular TechBlog readers know that I’ve become very interested in the trend of Windows users making the switch to the Mac. While I don’t believe the Mac will become the dominant consumer computing platform anytime soon, I do think enough Windows users are frustrated by the broken Windows ecosystem that a significant shift is starting to take place.
In talking to Windows users who are considering the Mac — or who have already bought one — I’ve found that many aren’t necessarily switching, but rather they’re adding. And many are making the leap now because they can run Windows on Apple’s hardware, either through virtualization software or Boot Camp. I’m also hearing from Mac users who need or want to run Windows and need help entering Microsoft’s world.
With that in mind, on Wednesday I signed a contract to write my second book, tentatively titled Running Windows on Your Mac. Catchy, huh?
It’s aimed both at Windows users who want to buy a Mac, and Mac users who want to learn Windows. With luck, it will be published by Peachpit Press, which handled my first title, in January 2008. There’s already an Amazon.com page for it, which actually was in place weeks before the contract was signed, unbeknownst to me! Peachpit doesn’t fool around . . .
My nights and weekends are going to be, um, a little busy the next few months. But it will be fun, and as I research and write, I’ll share some tips and tricks here with TechBlog readers, which I did while co-writing my Windows Vista book. And if you have some thoughts about what topics should be covered in a book like this, please let me know.
